Our vision for a brighter future

The Nestlé Cocoa Plan was launched back in 2009. It has engaged more than 150 000 cocoa-farming families so far, building on our three pillars. Better farming, aiming to improve livelihoods in communities. Better lives, aiming to improve social conditions for families. And Better cocoa, aiming to improve product sustainability.

Nestle cocoa plan

The Nestlé Cocoa Plan is built on three pillars:

Tree
Better Farming

We’re providing training and resources to help cocoa farmers improve yields and quality of produce. These promote positive agricultural practices and diversified income sources.

Child
Better Lives

When women are given more autonomy, communities thrive. We’re working to improve gender equality and household revenues by incentivizing greater access to education. This also helps to prevent child labour risks.

Better Cocoa

We’re working on making our cocoa supply chain more transparent and traceable, and focusing on moving towards cocoa forest-positive actions.

Delivering impact together

The Nestlé Cocoa Plan is building on more than a decade of experience in the field with the support and help of our partners. Progress and impact are made possible only with their support beginning with cocoa-farming families and the local communities.

Our Stories

Protecting and Restoring the West Africa’s Cavally Forest

The Cavally Forest Reserve is one of the largest of 234 classified forests in Côte d’Ivoire. In 2020, Nestlé began working alongside local people to protect and restore this dense landscape with great results.

Giving Cocoa Trees The Shade They Need

Shade trees stand as a sunblock for cocoa, allowing for moisture-rich crop spaces. So we’re distributing shade trees to cocoa farmers such as Dominic, who shares that “the results are clear for all to see.”

Adissa And Emmanuella’s School Story

Adissa and Emmanuella had never attended school. As part of the Nestlé Cocoa Plan, we support access to education by developing bridge schools. Follow their education journey here.

The Benefits of Beekeeping

Work can be seasonal for cocoa farmers in West Africa, with incomes slowing down outside of harvest periods. Beekeeping can give communities a low-space and low-expense source of additional income.
