2012Monitoring and remediation program established.In partnership with International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) Nestlé develops the Child Labor Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS). Nestlé develops the Child Labor Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS). This innovative tool is created to target prevention, mitigation and remediation assistance towards children involved in or at risk of child labour, as well as to their families and communities. Nestlé becomes the first major chocolate company to introduce a program of its kind in the cocoa sector – now an industry standard.

2013Expanding access to education.Nestlé kicks off a program to build 40 schools in 4 years in collaboration with World Cocoa Foundation (WCF).

2016KITKAT leading the way.KITKAT becomes the first brand at Nestlé to source all its cocoa from the Nestlé Cocoa Plan following a mass balance approach. The “mass balance” Rainforest Alliance certification demonstrates that we purchase a volume of certified cocoa equivalent to the volume used in your KITKAT.

2017Joining the Cocoa & Forests Initiative (CFI)Nestlé becomes part of the CFI, working alongside other cocoa and chocolate producers and governments with the ambition of helping reduce deforestation and forest degradation in cocoa-growing regions. 2020The Cavally Forest Reserve project is launched.Working in partnership with Côte d’Ivoire Ministry of Water and Forests, the Forest Agency (SODEFOR) and the Earthworm Foundation, Nestlé launches a project with the objective of protecting and restoring this unique forest habitat. Following a successful first phase, we are looking forward to extending our support with the help of new partners.

2020The Income Accelerator Program piloted.The Income Accelerator Program pilot is launched engaging 1000 cocoa-farming families in Côte d’Ivoire. The key principles are established to supporting the announcement of the test at scale from 2022, engaging with more than 10 000 families.

2022The Income Accelerator Program is officially launched.In January 2022, we announced the innovative income accelerator program, aiming at bridging the gap to a living income for cocoa-farming families and reducing child labour risks. First step, a test at scale in Côte d’Ivoire before extending to Ghana in 2024 with the aim to reach an estimated 160 000 cocoa-farming families in our supply chain by 2030.

2023The Nestlé Cocoa PlanThe Nestlé Cocoa Plan, launched in 2009, operates in 11 cocoa-producing countries, covering nearly 179 399 cocoa-farming families. More than a decade of experience and learnings on the ground allowed us to launch the income accelerator program that adds another layer of innovation and impact to our sustainable cocoa approach. We sourced, in 2023, 85.5% of our cocoa volumes from the Nestlé Cocoa Plan with the aim of reaching 100% by 2025.
